Importing Refugees Doesn’t Work

First, watch this video from NumbersUSA about immigration statistics:

This video makes it apparent that importing refugees is not a workable solution to the situations that create the refugees. After accepting that, we need to analyze what can be done with more effectiveness to help people who qualify as refugees in need of help:

  • Identify the root cause and work to alleviate that
  • Find temporary relocation areas as near to their homes as is practical
  • Supply necessary infrastructure and protection to the relocation areas
  • Triage the refugee group for further actions needed – such as medical help or political asylum
  • Repatriate as soon as possible

A refugee crisis presents a priority humanitarian need and cannot be ignored. A healthy immigration policy should encourage vibrant new participants to our society. But these two issues are not directly linked and need careful balancing.
