Republic vs Democracy

Our system of government was never intended to be a democracy. Although many believe that we live in one, they have never been asked to vote on the decisions made by said government. Yet they believe that they are empowered just the same. We are not.

Toward the middle of the political spectrum can be found the type of government limited to its proper role of protecting the rights of the people.

The word “democracy” does not appear in the Declaration of Independence or the US Constitution, nor does it appear in any of the constitutions of the fifty states.

The essence of freedom is the proper limitation of government.

We can keep our republic, as Franklin put it, or we will inevitably end up with an oligarchy, a tyranny of the elite.
